Meet the Author: Julie de Vere Hunt
Julie de Vere Hunt is an author whose work explores the rich intersection of history, mythology, spirituality and the enduring mysteries of the Holy Grail.
With a background in psychology and a longstanding fascination with sacred traditions, Julie has spent many years researching the stories, symbols and historical figures that continue to captivate readers and seekers alike. Her writing draws inspiration from themes of Mary Magdalene, Sophia wisdom, the Cathars, Avalon and the Grail traditions, weaving together historical research with imaginative storytelling.
Following a successful business career in London, Julie devoted more time to writing and raising her family. Over the years she has published articles, biographies and spiritual reflections, before turning her attention to fiction inspired by the mysteries that have shaped her own journey of discovery.
Julie is the author of the Mary Magdalene trilogy — Apostle to Mary Magdalene, Mary Magdalene’s Legacy and Mary Magdalene’s Final Legacy — novels that reimagine one of history’s most intriguing and misunderstood figures. Her latest work, The Grail Twins: A Cathar Legacy, expands these themes into a spiritual adventure that spans centuries, sacred sites and ancient traditions.
When she is not writing, Julie continues to research the mysteries that inspire her books, drawing insight from sacred places, historical study and personal experience. She divides her time between Oxfordshire and Luxor.
My Journey
In 2004, I met the Balinese spiritual teacher Ratu Bagus, whose teachings have been an important part of my life ever since. Through meditation, travel, and a growing fascination with the deeper mysteries of history and spirituality, I found myself drawn towards one figure above all others: Mary Magdalene.
In 2017, while attending a retreat in Bali, a fellow student told me she had seen Mary Magdalene standing beside me during meditation as a dark pink energy. Later that year, I was encouraged to visit Glastonbury, a place long associated with Magdalene traditions. Although I knew little about her at the time, the experience sparked a curiosity that would change the direction of my life.
Back home, I immersed myself in research. A friend suggested meditating on the Flower of Life symbol to encourage creativity. To my surprise, words began to flow effortlessly, and within six weeks I had completed my first book, Apostle to Mary Magdalene.
That book was followed by Mary Magdalene’s Legacy and Mary Magdalene’s Final Legacy, a trilogy exploring the traditions, legends and mysteries surrounding one of history’s most intriguing women.
My research then took me beyond Mary Magdalene into the worlds of the Cathars, the Druids of Wales, Avalon, Atlantis, ancient Egypt and the hidden wisdom traditions that appear throughout history. I travelled to many of the places featured in my books, including Provence, Montségur, Rennes-le-Château, Anglesey, Glastonbury and Luxor.
These journeys eventually inspired my first work of visionary fiction, The Grail Twins – A Cathar Legacy. Combining history, mythology, spirituality and imagination, the novel explores a question that first arose during a visit to Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer in southern France:
What if some of our oldest legends preserve fragments of a forgotten truth?
Today, I continue to write, research and share my discoveries through books, articles, interviews and social media. Whether exploring ancient sites, uncovering forgotten stories or asking difficult questions about the past, I remain driven by curiosity, wonder and a belief that there is always more to discover.
My books do not claim to provide definitive answers. Rather, they invite readers to explore the fascinating space where history, legend, spirituality and imagination meet.
